Andre Richardson currently holds the rank of “Kushinda” which is a Grand Master in the Martial Arts. He is the Chief Instructor/ Founder of The Andre Richardson Karate Institute and the PowerZone Karate Team located in Harlem, New York City. He then brought his services to a non-profit organization “The Harlem Children Zone” for the development of youth and community in the Harlem New York Area.
Andre’s journey began involving martial arts training in 1981 at 18 years old where he earned his Black Belt in USA Goju in 1983. As a karate competitor, he was consistently ranked nationally as well as regionally in his Men’s Heavyweight Black Belt fighting division. Because of his powerful and relentless attacks; he became known by his peers as “Juggernaut”. Andre was presented with The North America Sport Karate Association (NASKA)1988 Hall of Fame “Rookie of the Year”.
In 1990 he won the Gold Medal and the title of World Champion in the Super Heavyweight Division at the National Black Belt League “Super Grand” in Niagara Falls. He was ranked top #3 heavyweight in the World and was ranked #2 Heavyweight in the United States in 5 different sport karate leagues.
Andre is a pioneer in the sport karate world. A transcendent figure in the Martial Arts, Mr. Richardson is best known for assembling “The Power Up Karate Team” (sponsored by Power Within Vitamin). The “Power Up Karate Team won 1st place in North America Sport Karate Association (NASKA) 1989 and in National Black Belt League (NBL)1990. Also in 1990, Mr. Richardson coached the SMASH National Karate children team to a Gold medal and captured the National Black Belt League World Championship at the “Super Grand in Niagara Falls. Andre was presented with the National Black Belt League (NBL) “Hall of Fame” Team Coach of the Year award in 1990.
In 1994 Andre became the Director of Security for Nightclub mogul Andrew Sasson. Sasson created High-end Nightclub venues in Miami, New York City, Hampton’s, and Las Vegas, where Mr. Richardson managed and trained the security staff. During that time, he also did executive protection for Hollywood film producer Keith Barrish and son Christopher Barrish who was a business partner of Andrew Sasson.
After returning to New York from Las Vegas in 2011. Andre started a youth karate team called the “PowerZone Karate Team”. The PowerZone Karate Team has won “Team of the Year” 5 times in the Karate Referee Association of New England (KRANE).
In July of 2020, Andre “Juggernaut’ Richardson was inducted in The Who’s Who “Grand Masters and Pioneers in the Martial Arts, the Chuck Norris 50th year Anniversary edition.
